“Gypsies: From Europe to Brazil” is an ethnographic account published on Kindle Direct Publishing in February of 2024. The author, Diana Budur, got her cultural-anthropology doctorate degree from Princeton University in 2015. This book is based on her Ph.D. dissertation, which is available at the Princeton Library. During her education at Stanford University and at Princeton University, Diana Budur researched Gypsies from Europe all the way to Brazil. Having been born and raised in Romania, she started to suspect that her paternal grandfather was a Gypsy, and she decided to travel around the world in order to meet happy Gypsies, as in well-integrated and well-off Gypsies, for once. This book provides insights into real Gypsy people's lives and the type of work they do for a living, such as fortunetelling. As readers, we find out that the best of Brazil has also meant the best of the Gypsy culture. In many ways, Brazil remains the best country in the world for the Gypsies, according to the Gypsy people themselves. Read more
